I’ve spent most of the last 20 years around software. I enjoy every part of the creative flow: understanding problems, coming up with ideas, building prototypes, designing, structuring databases, and writing production code.
The pace of AI-assisted code generation is incredible. I think it’s bringing us closer to a world where AI can handle routine tasks, freeing people to do what humans do best.
There’s no doubt it’s changing how we work.
Coding. Writing. Designing. Analyzing. AI can now do all of this… and often better, faster, and cheaper than humans.
So where does that leave us?
It’s good to keep learning new skills when needed.
But I believe it’s the human qualities, the core character traits, that will matter most going forward.
The 10 Traits That Will Matter Most
These aren’t buzzwords or “soft skills.” They are the human character traits that build trust, fuel purpose, and shape strong cultures.
Love – Lead with empathy.
Not sentimentality, but deep care for people and the systems we shape.Justice – Be fair and principled.
Do what’s right, even when it’s hard. Integrity is a long game.Truthfulness – Build trust through honesty.

Why This Matters Now
As AI levels the playing field on what people can do, it’s human traits that will shape how we actually build things worthwhile.
These traits can’t be automated.
They can’t be replaced.
And they can’t be copy-pasted.
They’re built over time, through choices, habits, and reflection.
The future doesn’t just need faster, smarter outputs.
It needs braver, wiser people.
So the question isn’t only what you’re learning.
It’s who you’re becoming.
Which character traits are you building right now?
